My daughter and son-in-law have built their own home in rural Texas during the last three years after discovering the home they purchased on 16 acres of land was covered with lead paint. Both of their very young sons developed lead poisoning, and so Lorraine and Jack, both trained in law, dragged the house off their property, destroyed it and started over. The project has been both an education in construction and philosophy of living. I have watching them build their home and new life with admiration. I have also experienced what might be called a 'conversion' in thought which challenges my suburban way of living. My almost six-year-old grandson two favorite activities are basketball.. and carpentry. Seems exactly right.
