As many of you know, the Josephine Porter Institute for Applied Biodynamics (JPI) has maintained a regular newsletter for many years. We are migrating our work online, where we can reach more people and engage more actively in a growing global conversation.
Over the years, so many people have given their energy and time to make this publication special. In particular, the hard work of Bruce Bumbarger for his many years transforming the humble Applied Biodynamics into a wonderful visual layout so it could be a feast for our eyes and souls. We’re also incredibly grateful to Bruce for his support in our transition to this exciting new online platform. Bruce continues his work with Stella Natura Planting Calendar which is migrating its spiritual center to our neighbor, the Spikenard Honeybee Sanctuary. We also would like to thank Hunter Francis, who wrote for many years, and to Christy Korrow, we extend our gratitude. We could not be where we are without all of you and the wonderful writings of dozens of souls since Applied Biodynamics’ inception.
To our recent editors, Abby Porter and Mike Biltonen (and many more!), we extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all your efforts in continuing a quality publication. There are many more that should be thanked, who served as our elders before my time, who I have not had the honor to meet. Our work stands on your shoulders.
For those of you who have worked for Applied Biodynamics over the years or have been a JPI board member, please contact me for a complimentary lifetime subscription to our new incarnation. Your contributions are welcome all the same!
Not quite a year ago, in April of 2023, JPI launched our Substack account. Your subscription helps promote our work. Yes, you gain access to interesting articles, interviews, practical ideas, and audio recordings (with more surprises to come!), but the articles go out free to all regardless of whether they pay to subscribe. The main benefit to being a paid subscriber is that you get to be part of the biodynamic impulse while engaging in a meaningful approach to helping heal the earth.

We want to thank our founding members — you know who you are! — for their generous donations, which have helped jumpstart our Substack presence as a viable outlet for rich biodynamic ideas.
Our story is simple: JPI exists to help people gain access to biodynamic preparations who might not have livestock or grow their own medicinal herbs. In an ideal world, perhaps everyone would be able to make their own preparations. But in the real world, JPI exists to help close the gap and ensure enough biodynamic preparations are made to supply the world.
Because JPI is a 501(c)3 non-profit, we also focus on educating our customers with regular training sessions. If you like what you read here, your paid subscription helps support our work. At our workshops, we teach people how to make the preparations themselves. If everyone were to learn from our workshops and apply this knowledge, JPI would evolve into yet another spiritual form. In short, our business model is almost designed to put ourselves out of business. Our aspiration is to connect to as many people as possible and help create a broader base of biodynamics worldwide.

If the world were filled with so many quality preparation makers that JPI would no longer need to supply them, this would be a wonderful thing for the biodynamic movement — and the world. In the meantime, we supply what others cannot, and we are honored that you value what we offer.
We would consider it a great triumph if so many people were making biodynamic preparations that no one had to buy them ever again. This is why we try to give away as much information as possible.
Please note: anyone who cannot afford our Substack fee, please let us know. We do not want anyone barred from accessing this information for financial reasons.
JPI’s newsletter, Applied Biodynamics, has run for 109 issues and is migrating online for greater accessibility. Having shed a rigid form, Applied Biodynamics has become subtlized, global, and — dare I say it — etherized. By being less tactile, Applied Biodynamics and the spiritual message of biodynamics can now permeate through hard boundaries and more easily attract spiritual aspirants.
From this point onward, our Applied Biodynamics articles will be online. As the demand for printed literature has steadily declined, we will meet people where they are. In addition to this, our overhead costs are significantly reduced, which helps us focus even more on education and improving our preparations. We are forever grateful for your support and hope you can join us in this exciting new venture as Applied Biodynamics finds its voice online.
A paid subscription costs $8/mo which is less than 28 cents per day.
It may not seem like much, but a quarter a day goes a long way to supporting JPI’s mission!
