We at Biodynamic Agriculture Australia love your work, Lloyd and Stewart! This Biodynamic Digest #7 is a knockout, and contains a few valuable tips which I for one, intend carrying out, e.g.spraying out Yarrow prep on its own. I already spray out Nettle prep and strongly recommend its enlivening and prophylactic effects.
Incidentally, we have been advocating for years , a la Maria Thun, that horn silica should be sprayed out as a soil spray as well as an atmospheric. Hence BAA's Soil Activator is dosed with 501.
And spraying out Valerian prep on its own to spark up compost and liquid manures just before application...refer to Hugh Courtney's and Patricia Smith's articles, both in Applied Biodynamics #33, Summer 2001 . Add to this, proliferation of flowering and triggering of earthworm breeding (not to omit mention of its powerful stimulation of the soil food web).
A brief comment on the astrology under "Use it or lose it" in this issue of your digest. My astrologer partner referred excitedly to her copy of "The American Ephemeris for the 21st Century 2000 to 2050 at Midnight", 2nd ed. by Michelsen and Pottenger, to check this out. She was surprised to find that there is not a grand trine on the 24th in the Earth constellations as claimed in the digest. Might your claim be in error? (I hope not...)
Thanks for the feedback! Was just writing for the next digest about how the Australians inspire our work! Keep up the good work. As to the grand trine- a Quick Look at the Thun biodynamic almanac will show you the grand trine is highlighted on the 24th of September. A grand trine in biodynamics occurs when three planetary bodies are in perfect alignment in all three (in this case earth) constellations. This may differ slightly from your mentioned referenced โAmerican Emphemerisโ for potential lack of accounting of the sun and moon as part of the grand trine as Maria Thun did.
Mariaโs research is what we are paying attention to with Biodynamics. To that end we have to account for the full spectrum of the planets INCLUDING the Sun AND Moon.
So therefore my conclusion:
With the Sun and Moon in front of Virgo, Uranus in Taurus at trine (120 degrees Sun) and Pluto also trine Sun (120 degrees again!) this time in Capricorn, with all this occurring in the period of a very few short hours, this meets the definition of a grand trine, at least biodynamically speaking. That is why it is highlighted as especially good root period in the biodynamic calendar. These things always require more investigation and research. So have fun and thanks for doing the good work
