Cosmic Journal Entry #002
May-June 2023 forecasts from the biodynamic planting calendar
IN light, my soul is yearning flight to take;
in light that makes the world rise and swell.
therefore, my angel, stand thee forth!
with resolution right and true,
to thought, imparting might anew,
maintain me in these swells of ecstasy
which would swallow me in the senses’ tapestry.
From Rudolf Steiner’s The Calendar of the Soul, seventh week [May 19 - May 25], trans. Max Leyf
Greetings fellow farmers, gardeners, earth enthusiasts, and cosmic stewards!
Pastures and treelines are shimmering green as we edge into the second half of spring. The following astrological observations offer suggestions that may be helpful for planning activities with the land during this time. While these suggestions can serve as general guidance, be sure to consider your own climate and weather patterns first and foremost, and adapt according to local conditions.
* Today is Wednesday May 17, and it’s 11 o’clock in the morning.
* According to the sidereal zodiac, the Sun entered Taurus on May 15 and will remain here until June 20.
* The Moon enters Aries today (May 17), where it will remain throughout tomorrow (May 18). Plant and tend fruiting crops during this time – anything sweet produced from flowers.
* Tomorrow (May 18) is Ascension Day, also called Holy Thursday. With the Moon in Aries, this makes for a powerful opportunity to plant and tend fruit crops. It also presents an auspicious occasion to play, rest, and meditate with the land. Share a meal with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate.
* The Moon then transitions into Taurus on the morning of Friday, May 19, where it will remain until nightfall on Sunday, May 21. As both the Sun and Moon will be in Taurus, this weekend presents an ideal opportunity to plant and tend root crops.
* We will experience a New Moon this Friday, May 19. During the New Moon, plants’ energy tends to withdraw into their roots. With the Sun and Moon both in Taurus, this day presents a particularly powerful opportunity to apply BD 500 Horn Manure to your crops. It is recommended to stir and apply BD 500 Horn Manure around sundown. Since a fruit day usually precedes a root day, you can moisten your preparations with water in a warm location on the fruit day to activate the biological impulse and then distribute on the following root day.
* Because the Moon is ascending in the northern hemisphere until May 21, it is generally a better time for harvesting and sowing. If you are in the southern hemisphere where the Moon is descending, it is a better time for transplanting.
* The Moon then transitions into Gemini from the morning of May 22 until nighttime on May 23. Plant and tend flowering crops and herbs during this time.
* Moreover, the Moon will experience an Air Trine on May 22 and May 23, making these two days all the more powerful to plant and tend flowering crops and herbs.
* The Moon begins descending on May 22 and will continue descending until June 4, offering a window that is generally better for transplanting in the northern hemisphere. If you are in the southern hemisphere where the Moon will be ascending, it is a better time for sowing and harvesting.
Thank you for your care and effort as we work together to heal the Earth in conscious cooperation with the cosmos. 🥳
Thank you all so much. As a gardener for 45 years, I need all the help I can get!
