“A-SPRINGING from the sunlit soul
the ripened fruits of thinking’s light:
self-consciousness in feeling—
lo! all things in transformation!
I set forth now in full elation
through the watches of the Autumn night
for Winter’s exteriority shall waken
a Summertime within the soul.”
From Rudolf Steiner’s The Calendar of the Soul, thirtieth week [Oct 27 - Nov 2], trans. Max Leyf
Greetings fellow farmers, gardeners, land stewards and Cosmic shepherds!
Warm hues blanket the earth as we proceed through withering Autumn. The following astrological observations offer suggestions that may be helpful for planning activities with the land during this time. While these suggestions can serve as general guidance, be sure to consider your own climate and weather patterns first and foremost, and adapt according to local conditions.
* Today is Monday, October 30 and it’s 9 o’clock in the morning.
* According to the sidereal zodiac, the Sun is in Virgo, and will transition into Libra this Friday November 3, where it will remain through Sunday November 19.
* The Moon is currently in Taurus, where it will remain until around 3 PM on Wednesday November 1. Plant and tend root crops (do I hear garlic?) during this Earth sign.
* The Moon then transitions into Gemini at around 7 PM on Wednesday November 1, where it will remain until nightfall on Friday November 3. Plant and tend flowering crops during this Air sign. Moreover, these Air days provide good opportunities to apply BD 501 Horn Silica to the land and garden. It is recommended to stir and spray 501 in the morning hours along with the rising sun.
* On Thursday November 2, the Moon transitions from ascending to descending in the Northern Hemisphere. As the descending Moon helps plants take root after transplanting, farmers and gardeners in the Northern Hemisphere should prioritize transplanting from November 2 through November 15, at which time the Moon will switch back to ascending. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, where the Moon will transition from descending to ascending, best to finish transplanting before November 2, or wait until after November 15.
* The Moon then transitions into Cancer around midnight heading into Saturday November 4, where it will remain until around 4 AM on Sunday November 5. Plant and tend leafy crops during this Water sign.
* Starting at around 5 AM on Sunday November 5, we will experience a blackout period corresponding with the Moon’s apogee that lasts until close to midnight on Monday November 6. Best to refrain from working the land during this time.
* Then, all day Tuesday November 7 until around 1 PM on Wednesday November 8, the Moon will be in Leo. Plant and tend fruiting crops during this Fire sign. These two Fire mornings would also make for opportune occasions to apply BD 501 Horn Silica to the land and garden.
* Thereafter, from around 5 PM on Wednesday November 8 until around 6 AM on Sunday November 12, the Moon will have a prolonged transition through Virgo. Plant and tend root crops during this Earth sign. This Earth window may also serve as a good opportunity to sow cover crops, to encourage root formation and nitrogen fixing capacity. These Earth days would make for excellent opportunities to apply BD 500 Horn Manure to the land and garden. Moreover, applying Biodynamic Pfeiffer Field and Garden Spray to the land during this Earth window – especially before sowing cover crops – would provide a full-spectrum biodynamic boost for harmonization.
* Within this Earth window, we will experience the Moon’s descending node from around 2 AM to 7 AM on Saturday November 11, during which time it is recommended to refrain from working the land.
* The Moon then moves into Libra at around 10 AM on Sunday November 12, where it will remain until around 4 PM on Monday November 13. Plant and tend flowering crops and herbs during this Air sign. The morning of Monday November 13 would make for a nice occasion to apply BD 501 Horn Silica. Particularly since 501 is the only biodynamic preparation that is not included in the Pfeiffer Field and Garden Spray, this Flower day would make for an exceptionally powerful occasion to spray 501 for farmers and gardeners who have applied the Field and Garden Spray to their land during the preceding Earth window.
* Then, from around 7 PM on Monday November 13 until around 11 PM on Wednesday November 15, the Moon will be moving through Scorpio. Plant and tend leafy crops during this Water sign. If you have been experiencing particularly dry conditions, it may be worth considering to apply a Biodynamic Sequential Spray to your land during the Water window on November 13, 14 and 15. Conscientiously using the biodynamic preparations in alignment with opportune astrological configurations as a Sequential Spray can help bring moisture balance back to the local environment. It is strongly recommended that the land has already been treated with biodynamic preparations before conducting a Sequential Spray.
Thank you for your care and support as we work together to heal the Earth in conscious cooperation with the cosmos. 🥳
Thanks for this careful write-up. It’s appreciated! (Please keep up the Good Work!)
