THE dying light of world-wide spaces
within me springs to second life:
the soul receives the light of worlds
and ushers it into her depths,
therein newborn cosmic fruits to foster
an orchard bringing forth the human self
to ripen in the course of time.”
From Rudolf Steiner’s The Calendar of the Soul, twenty-second week [September 1-7], trans. Max Leyf
Greetings, fellow farmers, gardeners, Earth shepherds, and cosmic stewards!
Summer nights continue to lengthen as we edge closer to the Fall Equinox. The following astrological observations offer suggestions that may be helpful for planning activities with the land during this time. While these suggestions can serve as general guidance, be sure to consider your own climate and weather patterns first and foremost, and adapt according to local conditions.

* Today is Friday, September 1, and it’s 9 o’clock in the morning.
* According to the sidereal zodiac, the Sun is in Leo, where it will remain until it transitions into Virgo on September 16.
* The Moon is currently in Pisces, where it will remain until midday on Sunday September 3. Plant and tend leafy crops and herbs during this Water sign.
* We will, however, experience the Moon’s ascending node on the morning of Sunday September 3. For this reason, it is recommended to refrain from working the land until around 10 AM on Sunday.
* Thereafter, the Moon transitions into Aries at around noon on Sunday, where it will remain throughout all of Monday September 4. Plant and tend fruit crops during this Fire sign. Moreover, the Maria Thun Biodynamic Almanac distinguishes the window from 5 PM on Sunday through 9 AM on Monday as a “specially good” fruit time. Pick tomatoes, harvest melons, tend squash, and give your fruiting crops extra love during this special occasion. Monday morning would also serve as an excellent opportunity to apply BD 501 Horn Silica to crops and pasture. It is recommended to stir 501 along with the rising sun and apply it as a foliar spray during the morning hours.
* The Moon then transitions into Taurus at around 5 AM on Tuesday September 5, where it will remain until nightfall on Thursday September 7. Plant and tend root crops during this Earth sign.
* Thereafter, the Moon will move into Gemini in the early morning hours of Friday September 8, where it will remain until around 7 AM on Sunday September 10. Plant and tend flowering crops and herbs during this Air sign.
* On Friday September 8, the Moon also transitions from ascending to descending in the northern hemisphere. The descending Moon, in general, helps plants take root after transplanting. For those in the northern hemisphere, best to focus on sowing and harvesting until September 8, and then switch to transplanting. If you are in the southern hemisphere, where the Moon will transition from descending to ascending, best to finish transplanting before September 8, and then prioritize sowing and harvesting.
* On Sunday September 10, the Moon transitions into Cancer at around 8 AM, where it will remain throughout all of Monday September 11. Plant and tend leafy crops and herbs during this Water sign.
* Then, the Moon moves into Leo at around 2 AM on Tuesday September 12, where it will remain throughout all of Thursday September 14. Plant and tend fruit crops during this Fire sign. Moreover, these Fire days also make for good opportunities to apply BD 501 Horn Silica.
* If you have been experiencing particularly wet conditions, it may be worth considering to apply a Biodynamic Sequential Spray to your land during this Fire window on September 12, 13, and 14. Conscientiously using the biodynamic preparations in alignment with opportune astrological configurations as a Sequential Spray can help bring moisture balance back to the local environment. Since we will experience a New Moon on Thursday September 14, this window is all the more ideal for resetting atmospheric patterns. It is strongly recommended that the land has already been treated with biodynamic preparations before conducting a Sequential Spray.
Thank you for your care and effort as we work together to heal the Earth in conscious cooperation with the cosmos. 🥳
